For Individuals & Families

Appointments & Selling

What does Kaufman Precious Metals buy?

We purchase gold and silver jewelry, broken jewelry, gold and silver coins, bullion, sterling silver, platinum, palladium, select luxury watches, estate collections, and other items containing precious metals.

Visit our What We Buy page for a more detailed overview.

Is the initial evaluation complimentary?

Yes. Initial purchase evaluations are complimentary, and there is no obligation to sell. You can review the information and offer before deciding how you would like to proceed.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Kaufman Precious Metals operates by private appointment. Scheduling in advance allows us to provide dedicated attention, maintain privacy, and reserve sufficient time for your collection.

Contact us by phone, email, or through the form on our Contact page.

How long does an evaluation take?

Many smaller evaluations can be completed in approximately 10–20 minutes. Larger collections, estate holdings, or items requiring additional research may take longer.

We take the time necessary to evaluate each collection carefully rather than rushing the process.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring the items in their current condition. Original boxes, receipts, certificates, grading documentation, or other supporting records can be helpful when available, but they are not required for an initial evaluation.

Should I clean my jewelry or coins first?

Cleaning is generally unnecessary. In particular, do not polish or clean collectible coins, as improper cleaning can affect their condition and potential numismatic value. Bring the items as they are.

02

Understanding the Offer

Valuation & Pricing

How do you determine what my items are worth?

Value can depend on metal type, purity, weight, current precious-metals prices, condition, manufacturer, market demand, and—when applicable—collectible or numismatic value.

Relevant factors are considered together rather than applying one method to every item.

Do you use current gold and silver prices?

Yes. Precious-metals markets are monitored, and current market conditions are considered when an offer is prepared. Market prices can change throughout the trading day, so an offer may reflect conditions at the time of evaluation.

Is every item valued only for its metal content?

No. Some items may have value beyond their precious-metal content. Depending on the item, we may consider condition, rarity, collector interest, manufacturer, craftsmanship, age, and secondary-market demand.

Can I decline an offer?

Absolutely. There is no obligation to sell. You may decline an offer and retain your items. Our role is to provide clear information and an opportunity to sell without pressure.

Is a purchase evaluation the same as a formal appraisal?

Not necessarily. A purchase evaluation is intended to determine what Kaufman Precious Metals may offer to purchase an item or collection.

Insurance, tax, probate, charitable-donation, or litigation matters may require a formal written appraisal prepared for that specific purpose. Contact us in advance if you require documentation for a legal or administrative matter so the appropriate scope can be discussed.

03

What We Purchase

Jewelry, Coins & Bullion

Do you buy broken or damaged jewelry?

Yes. Broken chains, damaged rings, single earrings, worn jewelry, and other unwanted pieces may still contain significant precious-metal value. Jewelry does not need to be wearable to be considered.

Do you buy gold and silver coins?

Yes. We evaluate many gold and silver coins, including American Eagles, Morgan Dollars, Peace Dollars, bullion coins, investment-grade coins, and collectible or numismatic pieces.

Do you buy gold and silver bullion?

Yes. We purchase gold, silver, platinum, and palladium bullion, including many bars, rounds, and sovereign-mint products. Packaging, certificates, and purchase records should be included when available.

Do you purchase sterling-silver items?

Yes. We consider sterling-silver jewelry, flatware, hollowware, serving pieces, and other marked sterling items. Silver-plated items generally have a different value profile, but you may contact us if you are uncertain what you have.

Do you buy platinum and palladium?

Yes. We evaluate platinum and palladium jewelry, bullion, and other qualifying precious-metal items.

What if I am unsure what my items are made of?

You do not need to identify or sort everything before contacting us. Items can be reviewed for hallmarks, purity, weight, and other characteristics during the evaluation.

04

Inherited Property

Estates & Collections

Do you work with inherited or estate collections?

Yes. We work with individuals, families, executors, trustees, attorneys, and other estate professionals reviewing inherited jewelry, coins, bullion, sterling silver, watches, and related collections.

Does an estate collection need to be organized first?

No. Collections may remain organized as they were received. Avoid discarding packaging, labels, certificates, receipts, or handwritten records until the items have been reviewed.

Can you review a large collection?

Yes. Larger holdings can be addressed through a dedicated private appointment. Contact us beforehand with a general description of the collection so sufficient time can be reserved.

Can multiple family members attend the evaluation?

In many cases, yes. If several beneficiaries, family members, or representatives need to participate, mention this while scheduling so an appropriate appointment arrangement can be made.

05

Institutional Relationships

Professional Partners

Which professionals do you work with?

We welcome relationships with attorneys, executors, fiduciaries, trustees, financial professionals, estate representatives, jewelers, dealers, and other professionals whose clients need a dependable precious-metals resource.

Can you work directly with a professional’s client?

Visit our Professional Partners page for additional information.

Do you accommodate ongoing professional relationships?

Yes. Kaufman Precious Metals is available as an ongoing resource for professionals who periodically encounter precious metals, estate collections, or clients seeking guidance about selling.

How do I discuss a client or estate matter?

Contact us directly with a general description of the situation. Sensitive client information does not need to be included in the initial inquiry. The appropriate scope, scheduling, and communication process can then be discussed.

06

Confidence & Discretion

Privacy & Process

Can I remain present during the evaluation?

Yes. Transparency is central to our process. Clients are welcome to remain present, observe the evaluation, and ask questions as their items are reviewed.

How are precious-metal items evaluated?

Appropriate methods are selected based on the type of item. The review may include weight, dimensions, hallmarks, stated purity, condition, manufacturer, market demand, and other relevant characteristics.

Is my information kept confidential?

We understand that precious-metals transactions and estate matters can be personal and sensitive. Client inquiries, appointments, and transactions are handled with discretion and professionalism.
